Anointing of the Sick

This Sacrament unites a sick person’s suffering with that of Jesus and brings forgiveness of sins. Oil of the Sick, a symbol of strength, is the sign of this sacrament. A person is anointed with oil and receives the laying on of hands from a priest.

The Anointing of the Sick will be administered by a priest to any sick person who will request for it either personally or through their relatives and friends.

Please see below how to arrange for Anointing of the Sick, in case you or someone is sick:

If you are at home and need to be visited: Contact the parish office (250-564-5225) and speak to the Cathedral Rector

If you are the hospital or other care facilities, ask the nursing station to contact a priest for you.  They have the updated protocol in contacting the priest assigned for hospital chaplaincy.

The Sacrament of the Sick is not meant just for those dying but also those who are seriously ill (physical, mental); those preparing for major surgery; and the elderly.
