The General Instructions of the Roman Missal (GIRM) describes the Sacristan's role as a liturgical function:
"The sacristan, who diligently arranges the liturgical books, the vestments anf the other things that are necessary for the celebration of Mass." (# 105.a GIRM)
Sacristans are delegated individuals who prepare the sanctuary prior to the celebration of Mass, and clean and put away all sacred vessels after Mass. Sacristans are given access to the sacristy.
If you are interested to become a sacristan, please contact the Cathedral Rector (250-564-5225) or e-mail (secretary@shcpg.ca) with a subject line, 'Sacristan.'
